Lauber Rejects Government Study Urging Women to Postpone Mammograms until Age 50
St. Louis, MO – Today Liz Lauber rejects a recent government study conducted by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) that recommends women wait until the age of 50 to begin regular mammograms. The new study says most women don't need mammograms in their 40s and should get one every two years starting at 50 — a direct contradiction of the American Cancer Society's long-standing position.
“It is a tragic fact that women under the age of 50 die of breast cancer,” Lauber said. “Preventative care combined with a healthy lifestyle contributes to a long and healthy life,” Lauber continued. “The study should be resoundingly rejected by Congress and must not be included in the current health care debate.” READ MORE...

“My campaign is focusing on the core principles of limited government that make us proud to be the party of Lincoln,” said Liz Lauber. “As unemployment rates in St. Louis, St. Charles, and Lincoln Counties have risen to 9.6%, 8.8%, and 12.2% respectively, career politicians in Washington skirt around the economic crisis we are facing and instead allow a $900 billion dollar health care plan to take center stage,” Lauber said.

By Jo Mannies, Beacon political reporter

A rare battle cry coming from Missouri conservatives: New York, New York!
By Jo Mannies, Beacon Political Reporter
Doug Hoffman is a Conservative Party candidate for Congress in upstate New York who's competing in a heated three-way special election next Tuesday.
And it seems that Missouri conservatives are clamoring to jump on his bandwagon -- even Missouri Republicans who are rejecting their own party's more moderate nominee for the upstate New York seat.
N.Y. GOP rift spreads to races in other states
Tea-party roots new litmus test
Doug Hoffman's insurgent campaign in New York's special House race, which had already split national Republican leaders, is now turning into a litmus test for other Republican congressional candidates running in 2010 to prove their conservative credentials.
Liz Lauber, running in the Republican primary for a House seat in Missouri, this week made support for Mr. Hoffman a campaign issue, calling on five-term Republican incumbent Rep. Todd Akin to endorse and donate money to the Conservative Party nominee who is running in a special election Nov. 3.
Mr. Akin did endorse Mr. Hoffman, though his office said it was not a response to Mrs. Lauber's challenge but rather to calls received from constituents asking where the congressman stood on the race.
"The New York special election is becoming a referendum for the heart and soul of the Republican Party across the country," said Mrs. Lauber, a former congressional staffer. "I stepped up to the plate and threw my support [behind Mr. Hoffman] because I'm listening here to what people are saying at home."

Squeeze From The Right For House Republicans
By Alan K. Ota, CQ Staff
The passions of conservative activists could be reshaping the Republican Party and complicating some 2010 re-election campaigns.
In The Same Boat
Other Republicans facing primary challenges from energized activists are Reps. Todd Akin of Missouri, Lee Terry of Nebraska and Bob Inglis of South Carolina.
Akin is facing a GOP challenge from Liz Lauber, a former communications consultant who once worked as an aide to former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R‑Texas (1985-2003).
Armey heads FreedomWorks, the conservative activist group that has helped organize the tea party protests.
“It’s a fairly spontaneous movement. . . . It could bounce both ways,” said Akin, raising concern that activists’ protests could alienate swing voters vital to Republican electoral victories.
